Degree 21: Playing modal jazz

5 Lessons Advanced

About this course

Here I am going to explain how to play modal jazz and what to use for improvising. The song that I worked on is So what by Miles Davis and you can download some of recordings of mine. Modal jazz is the way where the musicians don’t play many chords but they improvise and stay more time on one chord. It means that you can use really a lot of different scales and a lot of different chords – turnarounds of the basic chord. You can use different intervals for comping and you can built some sound with the chords in fourths.
When you play Modal jazz you really have to keep the FORM, this is in this way of jazz very hard!
Enjoy!
